Blog Growth in 2018

It’s been a good year for this little blog of mine.

Screenshot of my Google Analytics showing a comparison of my blog traffic from August 6th 2018 to December 31st 2018 against the same dates in 2017. Users are up 138.33% (2972 vs 1247), Sessions are up 151.55% (3967 vs 1577), Pageviews are up 123.24% (6052 vs 2711) and the Bounce Rate is down 2.46% (82.08 vs 84.15)

I only started tracking visitors from the 6th August 2017, so I can only compare growth from the second half of the year, but the signs are positive. Over 140% user growth year-on-year.

The absolute number of visitors are still small in the big scheme of things, but over the last year I have worked at improving it and it is now growing steadily.

If I compare the second half of 2018 year to the first half, the change is less dramatic but still positive.

Screenshot of my Google Analytics showing a comparison of my blog traffic from 1st July 2018 to December 31st 2018 against 29th December 2017 to 30th June 2018. Users are up 14.74% (3565 vs 3107), Sessions are up 15.12% (3532 vs 3068), Pageviews are up 24.14% (7081 vs 5704) and the Bounce Rate is down 0.98% (81.72 vs 82.35)

To try to get the bounce rate down, I’ve added WordPress’ Jetpack to take advantage of their related posts feature.

Instagram is also growing steadily. I started the year with about 220 followers and by the end of the year I was at about 290, which is around 32% growth.

I’m still a long way from where I want to be, though—I’m working on Instagram becoming one of my main marketing platforms as I get closer to releasing a game and would like to get these numbers up in to the four digits.

There are a lot of amazing artists on Instagram and so far I have found the artist community to be positive and supportive. It tends to avoid a lot of the more troubling aspects of the platform and remains a nicer place to hang out than Twitter.
